The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is Africa's first Abbott World Marathon Major, and the eighth event to join the global series alongside Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and New York City.
Taking place across the weekend of 22 and 23 May 2027, with the 42.2km Road Marathon held on 23 May 2027, this fast, scenic, world-class course starts and finishes alongside the DHL Stadium in the heart of Cape Town. It is suited to a range of running enthusiasts, from elite athletes chasing a time to first-time and social runners.
Ballot applications and successful ballot entry redemptions can be completed here.
The weekend extends well beyond the road marathon. We are proud to offer inclusive events for all, including the 10km and 5km Peace Runs, as well as three incredible Cape Town Trail Marathon races over 43km, 22km and 11km.
Charity and tour operator entries open on 26 June 2026, and Peace Run and Trail Run entries open on 3 July 2026.
Information
You must be 18 years or older by the date of the event (23 May 2027) to participate in the 42.2km Road Marathon.
The R5.00 ($0.30) ballot application processing fee is non-refundable and will be donated to a Cape Town Marathon linked charity.
Successful ballot entries are non-transferable and no substitutions are permitted. However, should you no longer be able to participate, a deferral window will open closer to race day, giving you the option to defer your entry to 2028.
